The Most Commonly Misinterpreted Song Meanings

Everyone has heard and most of us love the Police hit, Every Breath You Take. However, not everyone is aware of the hidden meaning behind some of the lyrics. There many people who think that Sting wrote one of the most beautiful love songs of all time but they would be wrong. What Sting did was write a song about voyeurism, surrounded by a beautiful melody.

The song came out in 1983 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 8 weeks. The Police won the Grammy for song of the year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or a Group for the song. The song is considered to be one of the best songs ever ranking 84th on the Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

Sting has said that the lyrics are derived from a jealous lover who can not get over his ex-girlfriend dating other people. The lyrics, “Every Breath You Take, Every Move You Make, I’ll Be Watching You” are really sinister lyrics and it is quite funny that people choose to have this song played at their wedding. In the video for the song, Sting appears to be angry throughout most of it. I guess this is because he was not singing a love song, but singing about lost love.
