The Meanings and Stories Behind Popular Songs

Songs speak to our hearts and open our minds with their words and lyrics. Some songs are written to tell a clear story, leaving little to interpretation. Many songs, however, are written in a somewhat abstract fashion. Often leaving the listener little hints about its origin, but allowing them to draw their own conclusions and assemble their own interpretations. One of music’s most popular bands drew upon the power that lyrics can have over a person’s perceptions, and combined their magical words with equally complex musical notes to create some of the most beloved music ever made.Check out this link here.

Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles is a wonderful combination of the two styles. Paul McCartney used vivid imagery to paint a picture in the mind’s eye of the listeners that led them down a road to a heartbreaking story. As a child, McCartney’s father had always taught him to be kind and respectful to the elderly. He would often offer his seat to elderly women he would see while riding the bus, or offer to help them with their shopping. In his heart he thought that perhaps they were lonely. Maybe his simple offer was the only act of kindness they had received that day. It was in these memories that Eleanor Rigby was born.
